Synnex Australia has officially opened its new AUD150 million headquarters and purpose-built state-of-the-art logistics facility in Oakleigh South, Melbourne. This marks a major milestone in the company’s continued expansion and commitment to the Australian market.
The 44,000 sqm facility includes a 22,000-pallet capacity and a 35-metre-high, 4,283 sqm high bay warehouse featuring a world-class Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). Supported by over a kilometre of conveyors, the ASRS ensures fast, accurate, push-button pallet handling across all levels. The site also boasts 25,280 sqm of advanced conveyor infrastructure, a robust fire protection system with 8,500+ sprinkler heads, and an 800,000-litre tank, one of Australia's largest rectangular sprinkler tanks. An architecturally designed three-story office building, with 975 sqm per level, complements the facility, combining functionality with iconic design.
Strategically located to strengthen Synnex’s national logistics network, the new Melbourne operates in tandem with its Sydney logistics centre and supports their annual revenue of over USD2.5 billion. The expansion enhances operational scale, agility, and service delivery across the region.
“This project represents not just our commitment to technology, investment, and sustainable growth in Australia, but a reflection of the dedication of the people behind it,” said Arthur Gimisis, CEO of Synnex ANZ. “It pushed the boundaries of what we thought was possible in terms of coordination, planning, and execution. The determination of the team and their commitment to getting every detail right was the key to success.”
Planning and construction began in 2020, and in the lead-up to its completion in Q2 2025, a joint task force from Synnex Group headquarters, Synergy Intelligent Logistics, and the Australian team orchestrated a complex relocation plan. Due to strict safety regulations, the team had no physical access to the site before completion, relying entirely on 3D simulation, real-time monitoring, and Synnex’s MIS system to meticulously storyboard and coordinate each phase of the relocation.
Over the Easter holiday, more than 600 containers and 7,200 pallets were relocated in a tightly orchestrated four-day operation. Business resumed without disruption on the next working day, a feat widely praised as setting a new benchmark in logistics, both in Australia and internationally.
A Japanese automation provider commented, “We’ve never seen a relocation of this scale completed in such a short timeframe. The execution was exceptional.” An Australian equipment supplier added,“This was one of the boldest, most fearless projects we’ve seen in the local logistics industry.”
Reflecting on the achievement, Alex Lin, General Manager of Synergy Intelligent Logistics, described the move as “meticulous yet tough - a true test of our capabilities from end to end,” crediting its success to the real-time coordination and seamless collaboration between headquarters and the local team.
Echoing this sentiment, Jacky Chen, Senior Logistics Manager of Synnex Australia, who oversaw the local execution, said, “From construction to commissioning, the scale of the project demanded constant problem-solving. What stood out was the unwavering teamwork, with every detail executed with precision.”
Since its founding in 1988, the Synnex Group has built a global network of 26 logistics centres, including major facilities in Taipei and Taichung, supporting annual revenues of USD14.26 billion. Strategic investments in Thailand, Vietnam, and India’s distributor, Redington (covering India, the Middle East, and Africa), have driven the Group’s total channel revenue to USD28.74 billion in 2024, with over 80% now generated from overseas markets.
The new Melbourne headquarters and logistics facility is more than a physical expansion; it is a testament to Synnex’s long-term commitment to Australia’s economic development and technological progress.
